A Two Hour Winter Break at Matthaei Botanical Gardens

This time of year it is hard going out into the cold to set up to capture images so I decided to take a break from the paperwork and head to Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor with a friend. There is always a nice variety of tropical plants and there is always something in bloom.

My friend Jim Robertson sent me this image of a cluster of Lilies from the outing. He used Nik Viveza to darken the background and also used Color Efex for a little detail extraction and some silver reflector effect.

I went in a little closer for the back of a Lily and then used texture screens to give it the look of an etching.

It is always great visiting  Matthaei Botanical Gardens in January.

About europeanimages

Light is both the photographer's palette and brush. Harnessing available light is a skill learned through the study of technical theory and then applying it in the field. My goal as a photographer is to search out the images that interest me artistically, then once I have found the essence of that place I use composition and light to enhance the images.
