A Two Hour Winter Break at Matthaei Botanical Gardens

This time of year it is hard going out into the cold to set up to capture images so I decided to take a break from the paperwork and head to Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor with a friend. There is always a nice variety of tropical plants and there is always something in bloom.

My friend Jim Robertson sent me this image of a cluster of Lilies from the outing. He used Nik Viveza to darken the background and also used Color Efex for a little detail extraction and some silver reflector effect.

I went in a little closer for the back of a Lily and then used texture screens to give it the look of an etching.

It is always great visiting  Matthaei Botanical Gardens in January.

Workshop at Matthaei Botanical Gardens, April 30

I spent the day giving a one on one workshop with Cheryl one of the students for the Fall Rome Photographic Workshop. We spent the morning going over camera function, composition, and then spent the afternoon going over Photoshop and Nik Software functions.

By the end of the day, we had captured several wonderful Images. Cheryl had a better understanding of her camera settings and the Photoshop and Nik Software tools necessary to process her images.

Nik Software was used to process the images withViveza 2 and Sharpen Pro 3.0. after opened up from Photoshop CS4 with no other processing.

I stopped by Matthaei Botanical Gardens for the Spring Orchid Festival and was able to capture these images hand holding my camera. During the Festival no tripods are allowed! By opening up the Aperture to F 5.6 and setting the ISO to 1600 I had enough depth of field for these images.
